How it works

  1. Questions start easy and get harder. Six options, one right answer.
  2. Every paper is generated from rules at the moment you start. No two people see the same test.
  3. Your score is on the standard IQ scale: mean 100, standard deviation 15, with a 90% range.
  4. Pick your age group and we add an age-adjusted estimate, the way professional tests do.

Questions people ask

Are IQ tests the same for men and women?

Yes. Large studies find no meaningful difference in average overall IQ between men and women, and professional tests are normed on combined samples. Our tests are identical for everyone and never ask your sex.

Does age change an IQ score?

Professional tests compare you only with people your own age: the WAIS-5 covers ages 16 to 90, the WISC-V ages 6 to 16. On average, reasoning and speed peak in the mid-20s and decline slowly after that, while vocabulary holds steady into the 60s. Select your age group and we show an age-adjusted estimate next to your score.

Can children take an IQ test?

A child's IQ is measured by a psychologist, with tests such as the WISC-V (ages 6 to 16) or the WPPSI-IV (ages 2½ to 7). Scores before about age 7 are much less stable than later ones. Our puzzles for kids give no IQ number: they train reasoning and build confidence, with no sign-up and no ads.

Is there an IQ test for older adults?

Yes. Raven's Coloured Progressive Matrices was designed for children and for older adults. Brain Check 60+ uses large print, no clock and gentle difficulty. It is not a dementia screening: tools such as the MoCA are given by clinicians. If memory changes worry you or your family, see a doctor.

How is my score calculated?

Correct answers are adjusted for guessing and converted to the IQ scale (mean 100, standard deviation 15). Until 200 people have taken our tests, you are compared with a provisional norm. After that, the difficulty of every kind of question is measured on real test-takers and your score is placed on that measured scale. You always see a 90% range, not just one number.

How accurate is an online IQ test?

It is an estimate. An unsupervised test cannot control conditions, and retaking any IQ test raises scores by about 5 points on average (Scharfen, Peters and Holling, 2018). Only a test administered by a licensed psychologist produces a diagnostic score.

Can this test get me into Mensa?

No. Mensa admits the top 2% on an approved, supervised test, and online tests do not qualify. A result in the 130s here is a good reason to try the real thing.

Why are there no word questions in the scored tests?

Words do not translate. The tests run in 13 languages, so the scored core is made of shapes and numbers that mean the same thing everywhere.

Is there a long, complete IQ test?

Yes: the Deep IQ Assessment. 134 questions in six timed sections, about 53 minutes, close to the length of a professional battery. It reports six index scores (fluid, quantitative and abstract reasoning, visual-spatial ability, working memory and processing speed) and a full-scale estimate with a 90% range. Progress is saved after every section.

This is an unsupervised online reasoning test. It is not a clinical or professional assessment, it produces no diagnosis, and no decision about anyone should rest on it. A supervised test administered by a qualified psychologist is the only thing that yields a diagnostic score.
