Thai kickboxer

Born Sombat Banchamek in 1982 in the Surin province, this Thai martial artist gained global prominence as a professional kickboxer and Muay Thai fighter. Throughout his career, he has navigated diverse professional roles including military personnel, football player, and actor, while consistently maintaining a significant public profile as a primary ambassador for Thailand’s traditional combat sport.

Early Development and Por. Pramuk

Starting his training at age eight, Sombat Banchamek initially fought under the name Damtamin Kiat-anan. By age 15, he relocated to Chachoengsao to train at the Por. Pramuk Gym. His early professional success included capturing the featherweight title at Omnoi Stadium, followed by winning the lightweight belt at the same venue and the 140lb Toyota Marathon at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in 2002.

Success in the K-1 World MAX

Banchamek entered the Japanese K-1 Max promotion in 2004, where he defeated John Wayne Parr and Masato Kobayashi to win his first tournament title. He secured a second K-1 Max championship in 2006 by defeating Andy Souwer via technical knockout. Despite these achievements, he faced notable setbacks, including a unanimous decision loss to Masato in the 2007 quarterfinals.

Transition to Banchamek Gym

Following professional disputes with the management at Por. Pramuk Gym in 2012, he established his own facility, the Banchamek Gym. This period marked a shift in his branding, as he began competing under the name Buakaw Banchamek. He continued his competitive output through Thai Fight tournaments, winning the 70kg tournament titles in both 2011 and 2012.

Broadening Professional Ventures

Beyond the ring, he has engaged in various professional activities, including an acting career with roles in the films Yamada: The Samurai of Ayothaya and Thong Dee Fun Khao. He holds a military rank as a lieutenant and has been honored with the Member of the Order of the White Elephant and the Companion of the Order of the Crown of Thailand.
