Early Career in France and Germany
Harit commenced his professional career with the Ligue 1 club Nantes, making his debut on 13 August 2016 in a match against Dijon. His performance attracted interest from Germany, leading to a July 2017 transfer to Schalke 04 for a reported fee of 8 million euros. During the 2017–18 season, he secured the Bundesliga Rookie of the Year award, highlighted by a goal during a 4–4 draw against Borussia Dortmund in the Revierderby. Following a successful loan period, his move became permanent on 7 November 2022 for approximately 5 million euros after he reached a required appearance threshold. By September 2025, Harit shifted to the Turkish Süper Lig on a loan deal with Başakşehir.
International Representation
Although he represented various French national youth teams, including winning the 2016 UEFA European Under-19 Championship, Harit opted to switch his allegiance to Morocco in September 2017. He debuted for Morocco the following month during a World Cup qualification match against Gabon. He was selected for the 2018 FIFA World Cup squad in Russia and the 2022 World Cup squad in Qatar, though an injury prevented his participation in the latter tournament. In October 2023, he recorded his first goal for the national team during a victory over Liberia.
Legal and Disciplinary Matters
In June 2018, Harit was involved in a fatal road accident in Marrakesh that resulted in the death of a pedestrian. He received a four-month suspended sentence and a fine. Additionally, in March 2020, Schalke fined him 100,000 euros for violating club isolation mandates regarding COVID-19 by attending a shisha bar.
