Graduating from the Saint Petersburg Institute of Civil Engineers in 1902, Zivar bay Ahmadbayov became the first Azerbaijani architect to possess higher formal education. His professional trajectory spanned the final years of the Russian Empire, the existence of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, and the early period of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic.
Professional Career in Baku
Following his graduation, Ahmadbayov began a tenure in the Baku Governorate that lasted until 1917, during which time he also performed duties for the Baku City Council. He eventually assumed the role of chief architect of Baku upon the formation of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. He remained in this capacity until 1922, managing urban development projects during a period of significant regional transition.

Ahmadbayov designed several prominent religious and institutional structures. His portfolio includes the Taza Pir Mosque and the Baku-Blue Mosque. Furthermore, he designed the Murtuza Mukhtarov Mosque in the municipality of Amirjan, which later attained recognition as a UNESCO historical monument. Beyond religious commissions, he served as the architect for various residential buildings in Vladikavkaz and designed the building for the Ophthalmology Institute in Baku.
Legacy and Commemoration
Ahmadbayov resided and worked throughout his career in Shamakhi, Goychay, and Baku. Since his death in 1925, his contributions to the city's infrastructure have been formally acknowledged. A street in Baku currently carries his name. Additionally, a monument dedicated to his work was unveiled on May 26, 2011, located in a park bearing his name near the Nizami Ganjavi metro station in Baku.
