Born in Al Hoceima on 23 February 1988, Elyounoussi moved to Norway with his family at age 11. He developed his skills through the youth systems at Nylende and Trosvik before joining Fredrikstad. In 2008, Elyounoussi transitioned to SC Heerenveen on a five-year contract valued at €3.5 million. His stint in the Netherlands included success in the 2008–09 KNVB Cup. Following stints at Lillestrøm and a return to Fredrikstad, he joined Rosenborg in 2012. He subsequently moved to the German club 1899 Hoffenheim in 2013, followed by a move to Olympiacos, where he helped secure the 2016–17 Super League Greece title.
Global Career Transitions
Elyounoussi's professional path included a loan to the Azerbaijani club Qarabağ during the 2017–18 season. In 2018, he moved to the Swedish side AIK, where he secured an Allsvenskan league championship. He finished his professional career in Japan with Shonan Bellmare, joining the J1 League side in 2020. During his final tenure, which concluded after the 2023 season, he recorded five goals across 103 appearances.
International Service
Beyond his debut success, Elyounoussi maintained a role as a Norwegian international. He captained the side during friendlies against South Africa and Zambia in January 2013, scoring the winning goal in the match against South Africa. He also netted a goal in the 2012 King's Cup opener against Denmark during his fifth cap for the national team.
