The crowning achievement of his junior career came in 2010, when Baron won a World Youth Chess Championship title — confirming him as one of the best players of his age anywhere in the world. Youth world titles are the clearest predictor the game has of adult strength, and Baron's marked him as a player who belonged at the highest level Israeli chess could offer.
The Grandmaster Record
In 2011, Baron was awarded the grandmaster title — and in doing so became the youngest player ever to earn it for Israel, a record that stood for years afterward. For a national chess federation accustomed to importing its grandmasters fully formed, a teenager who had grown up entirely within the Israeli system reaching the title faster than any predecessor was a landmark.
