Takehiro Tomiyasu

Takehiro Tomiyasu transitioned from the youth ranks of Avispa Fukuoka to the Premier League, establishing himself as a versatile defender in both European and international competitions. Born in 1998 in Japan, he progressed through club systems in Belgium and Italy before securing a high-profile move to Arsenal in 2021, eventually joining Crystal Palace following a stint with Ajax.

Early Development in Japan

Tomiyasu began his football education at Sanchiku Elementary School and later attended the FC Barcelona Academy in Fukuoka. He joined the Avispa Fukuoka youth system at age twelve, where he evolved from a midfielder into a centre-back. His professional debut occurred on 14 October 2015 during an Emperor's Cup match against Machida Zelvia. By 2017, he had become a central figure for the club, helping them reach the J1 League Promotion Playoffs.

European Expansion

In January 2018, Tomiyasu moved to Belgian club Sint-Truiden on a three-and-a-half-year contract. He adapted to the rigours of European football, eventually earning the club's Player of the Year award for his performances during the 2018–19 campaign. His consistent defensive form prompted a move to Serie A side Bologna in July 2019 for a reported fee of €9 million, where he quickly earned recognition as a tactical defender.

Premier League and International Career

Joining Arsenal in 2021 for a fee of up to £17 million, Tomiyasu expanded his profile within the English top flight. Following his departure from Arsenal in 2025, he played one season for Ajax before returning to England to play for Crystal Palace. Internationally, he earned his first senior call-up for Japan in 2018, subsequently featuring in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup final, the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the 2023 Asian Cup, and the 2026 World Cup.
