Publishing and Humanism

Brant established deep professional connections with Basel printers, including Johann Amerbach and Johann Bergmann von Olpe. Between 1488 and 1501, he contributed to dozens of publications, ranging from legal texts like the Corpus Juridici canonici to theological works by Augustine and Ambrose. His own literary output included Aesopi appologi sive mythologi, a collection of fables, and various Neo-Latin poems.

Public Service and Civic Life

In 1500, Brant returned to Strasbourg to serve as syndic, and by 1503, he occupied the influential position of city chancellor. Emperor Maximilian I appointed him an Imperial Councilor and granted him the title of Count Palatine. Despite his duties in public administration and his role as a judge for the Imperial Court in Speyer, he maintained a tolerant stance toward religious figures during the early stages of the Reformation.
