The research trajectory of Salahaddin Khalilov began in 1976 with a dissertation focused on the logical analysis of scientific and technological progress within the Soviet Union. Since that initial inquiry, he has developed an extensive body of work exploring phenomenological inquiry, comparative philosophy, and the intersections between Eastern and Western intellectual traditions, maintaining a sustained focus on cognitive theory.
Academic and Institutional Development
Khalilov defended his postdoctoral research in 1989, the same year he achieved the rank of professor and assumed leadership of the Philosophy Department at Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University. In 1991, he founded Azerbaijan University, serving as its rector for fifteen years. His institutional reach expanded in 1994 when he founded the research center East and West, and in 1997 he established the journal Ipek Yolu, which he edited until 2005.

In works such as 'Philosophy, science, culture: Their peculiarities in the East and the West' and his investigations into the phenomenology of life, he examines the correlation between soul and body. Public and Scientific Service
Beyond his teaching, Khalilov has participated in the governance of science and education. He held a seat in the Parliament of Azerbaijan between 2000 and 2005, serving as Deputy-Chairman of the Science and Education Permanent Commission. He is a member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and serves on the Presidium of the Higher Attestation Commission under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
