Journalistic Foundations
Born in 1975, Pashinyan attended Yerevan State University from 1991 to 1995. Before entering government, he worked as a journalist and writer. He founded the newspaper Oragir in 1998, which faced legal challenges due to libel rulings involving then Minister of National Security Serzh Sargsyan. Following this period, he served as the editor of Haykakan Zhamanak from 1999 until 2012, using the publication to maintain a critical stance against established political figures.

Pashinyan entered the National Assembly of Armenia, serving as a member between 2012 and 2018. His political strategy evolved through his opposition work, eventually leading to the 2018 Armenian Revolution. This movement resulted in the resignation of the existing government, facilitating his election as Prime Minister. He continued to lead the government through successive terms, winning re-election in the 2021 parliamentary contest.
Governance and Regional Conflict
During his tenure, Pashinyan oversaw Armenia’s position throughout the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War. The conflict concluded with a trilateral ceasefire agreement in November 2020. In the years following, he managed domestic political pressures while pursuing diplomatic negotiations regarding a formal peace agreement with Azerbaijan. These efforts occurred alongside ongoing shifts in Armenia's regional relations and internal governance.
Awards and Recognition
His diplomatic and state activities have been recognized through several international and state honors. In 2023, he received the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Pius IX. Subsequent recognition includes the Order of the Golden Eagle in 2025, followed by the Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour and the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity in 2026.
