Foundational Training and Early Appointments
Todorov graduated with honors from the Dobrin Petkov National School of Music in 1993, having studied piano, trumpet, composition, and conducting. He continued his education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, where he specialized under Mendi Rodan. In 2000, at age 26, Todorov became the youngest conductor in Bulgaria to lead the Plovdiv Opera and Philharmonic. He later served as artistic director for the Burgas Opera and Philharmonic Society from 2003 to 2005. His most significant long-term tenure began in 2005 at the State Opera in Ruse, where he managed the institution for twelve years while also directing the Danube Sounds Choir and the Scene by the River festival.
The Sofia Philharmonic and International Recognition
Todorov has served as the artistic director of the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra since 2017. Under his tenure, the ensemble has performed at high-profile venues such as the Musikverein in Vienna, the Berliner Philharmonie, and the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.
