Nawaf Al Abed

Saudi Arabian football player

Nawaf Shaker Fayrouz Al-Abed entered professional football records on 7 November 2009 by scoring a goal within two seconds during a Prince Faisal U-21 Cup match against Al-Shoulla. While the official result of that specific fixture was later nullified, the event established his reputation as a rapid attacker within the Saudi Arabian football system.

Professional Club Trajectory

Al-Abed began his career at Al-Hilal after emerging from the club's youth academy. Over a tenure spanning more than a decade, he secured multiple titles including the Saudi Professional League in the 2009–10, 2010–11, 2016–17, 2017–18, and 2019–20 seasons. His trophy cabinet also includes the 2019 AFC Champions League, multiple King Cup of Champions wins, and numerous Crown Prince Cup victories. In 2020, he transitioned to Al-Shabab on a three-year deal, concluding his time there in April 2023. He later signed with Al-Qadsiah in February 2024 and subsequently moved to the Pro League side Al-Riyadh in July 2024.

International Competition

The winger has been a consistent participant in regional and continental tournaments. During the 22nd Arabian Gulf Cup, he scored the winning goal against Yemen in the quarter-finals and added another against the United Arab Emirates in the semi-finals. Saudi Arabia eventually claimed runner-up status after a loss to Qatar at the King Fahd International Stadium. In 2015, Al-Abed joined the national squad for the AFC Asian Cup, where he registered a goal during a 4–1 victory over North Korea. By May 2018, he was named to the preliminary squad for the World Cup in Russia.

Regulatory and Disciplinary Incidents

Al-Abed’s professional career has experienced moments of regulatory scrutiny. Following a match against Ittihad on 9 March 2017, where he scored a penalty, the Saudi Arabian FA initially imposed a two-game ban regarding his conduct during the goal celebration. This disciplinary action was eventually rescinded following an appeal filed by Al-Hilal. Additionally, his early career highlight involving the two-second goal was struck from formal records because his team fielded six players exceeding the age restriction of 21 during that specific tournament match.
