Early Development and Training
Born in Čačak in 1873, Petrović moved to Belgrade in 1884. Following her graduation from a school of higher education in 1891, she began teaching at the same institution in 1893. She later expanded her artistic training in Munich under the guidance of Anton Ažbe. During this period, she engaged with major figures of modern art and established professional connections across the European art scene.

Petrović produced roughly three hundred oil paintings, alongside sketches, studies, and watercolors. Her aesthetic approach spanned impressionism, fauvism, and expressionism. Beyond the studio, she helped co-found the Circle of Serbian Sisters. This humanitarian organization focused on providing aid to ethnic Serbs in Ottoman-controlled Kosovo and Macedonia, reflecting her deep commitment to national issues.
Wartime Service and Final Years
The outbreak of conflict in the region fundamentally altered her daily life. Volunteering as a nurse during the Balkan Wars, she provided care to soldiers until contracting typhus and cholera in 1913. Despite earning a Medal for Bravery and the Order of the Red Cross for her service, she returned to nursing duty at the start of World War I. She died from typhus in 1915 and is interred at the Belgrade New Cemetery.
