A professional association football career for Nabil Ghilas began after he moved from his hometown of Marseille to Portugal in 2010. Born on 20 April 1990, the French-Algerian striker progressed through lower-tier clubs before establishing himself at Moreirense F.C. and eventually earning a multi-year contract with FC Porto.
Early Career and Moreirense
After playing amateur football in France, Ghilas transferred to Moreirense F.C. at age 20. His initial period included a loan spell at F.C. Vizela in the third division. He returned to Moreirense for the 2011–12 season, contributing to the club's promotion to the Primeira Liga. During the 2012–13 campaign, he played 30 league matches and scored 13 goals, including braces against C.D. Nacional and S.C. Beira-Mar.

Ghilas joined FC Porto on 8 July 2013 on a four-year deal with a buyout clause of €30 million. He debuted for the club on 22 September 2013. His first goal arrived on 5 February 2014 against G.D. Estoril Praia in the Taça de Portugal. He later scored against Eintracht Frankfurt in the UEFA Europa League. In 2014, he moved to Córdoba CF on loan, followed by a one-year loan at Levante UD in 2015.
International Representation
Ghilas represents the Algeria national team, following in the footsteps of his older brother, Kamel. He received his first call-up in March 2013 for a 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Benin. He earned his first cap on 9 June 2013, scoring in a 3–1 victory. He subsequently participated in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Belo Horizonte, appearing as a substitute against Belgium.
