Born on 17 April 1999 in Accra, the Ghanaian centre-back established his professional career across multiple European leagues. After rising through the youth systems in his home country and Spain, he emerged as a consistent defensive presence in elite club football.
Early Development and Spanish Beginnings
Salisu began his football education at Kumasi Barcelona Babies before transitioning to the West African Football Academy in 2013. Following a hiatus from club football, he participated in a trial for the African Talent Football Academy in 2017. Later that year, he joined the youth setup at Real Valladolid. He debuted for the reserve side in January 2018 and secured a professional contract soon after. His senior team progression followed in 2019, where he became a primary starter for the squad during the 2019-20 season.

In August 2020, Southampton activated a buyout clause to sign the defender. Although injury and fitness requirements delayed his integration, he made his debut in February 2021 during an FA Cup fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Over the next three seasons, he featured regularly in the Premier League. His tenure at the club ended in 2023, following a season hampered by a recurring hip abductor injury that limited his availability for manager Rubén Sellés.
International Career
After navigating complex negotiations regarding his national team eligibility, Salisu committed to representing the Black Stars in 2022. He made his international debut against Brazil in September of that year. During the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, he started in central defence for every group stage match, scoring against South Korea. He continues to feature for Ghana in major tournaments, including appearances in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Move to Monaco
In August 2023, Salisu signed a five-year contract with Monaco. The agreement binds him to the club until July 2028, marking his transition to his current professional stage in continental football.
