Thirty-one appearances for the Ghana national team defined the midfield career of Mohammed Rabiu, a professional footballer born in Accra in 1989. Educated at Konongo Odumase Senior High School, he navigated a decade-long career through various European leagues, demonstrating defensive versatility across stints in Spain, Italy, France, and Russia while maintaining his status as a key squad member.

Early Career in Spain and Italy

Rabiu began his professional journey at age 18, joining Gimnàstic in January 2008 after departing Liberty Professionals FC. His debut occurred in May 2008 against Sevilla Atlético. Following a brief six-month spell, he moved to Xerez CD, making his first appearance in November 2008. By August 2009, he transitioned to Italian football when U.C. Sampdoria secured him on loan. He subsequently moved to Udinese Calcio, where he remained for one season.

Success with Évian

In August 2010, Rabiu arrived at the French club Évian Thonon Gaillard for a loan period. His debut followed in October 2010. During the 2010-11 campaign, he participated in 10 matches, contributing to the team's promotion to Ligue 1. Following this achievement, the club completed a permanent transfer for the midfielder, involving a fee of €1 million.

Russian League Tenure

In August 2013, Rabiu moved to Russia, signing a three-year contract with Kuban Krasnodar for a reported €2.6 million fee. By August 2016, he joined FC Anzhi Makhachkala on a three-and-a-half-year deal. His time in Russia was marked by recurring injury setbacks, which led to his removal from the active roster during the 2016-17 season. He eventually rejoined Anzhi in July 2018. Later, he signed with Krylia Sovetov in February 2019 and FC Tambov in October 2020.

International Representation

Rabiu represented Ghana at various levels, including the Black Satellites, where he participated in the 2009 African Youth Championship qualification matches. He was also called up to the Black Stars squad for the 2008 African Cup of Nations. His international resume includes appearances in the 2013 and 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, as well as the 2014 FIFA World Cup. His most significant international honor was securing the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup title.
