Mahmudullah reached a milestone in 2015 by becoming the first Bangladeshi batsman to score a century in ICC Cricket World Cup history. Early Career and International Debut
Born in Mymensingh on 4 February 1986, Mahmudullah attended the Mymensingh Zilla School. He initially entered the sport as a bowler before transitioning into a batting-focused all-rounder. His ODI debut occurred during the 2007 tour of Sri Lanka, where he contributed 36 runs and took two wickets. His Test debut followed on 9 July 2009 against the West Indies. In that debut match, he achieved an eight-wicket haul, which remains the best Test bowling performance by a Bangladeshi player on debut, proving instrumental in the national team's first Test victory on foreign soil.

During the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, Mahmudullah established himself as a key performer for Bangladesh. Against England on 9 March 2015, he recorded the first century ever achieved by a Bangladeshi batsman in the tournament. He followed this with a second century against New Zealand on 13 March 2015. Over the course of the tournament, he scored 365 runs at an average of 73.00, finishing as Bangladesh's highest run-scorer and earning a place in the 'Team of the tournament' as selected by Cricbuzz.
Domestic T20 Leagues
Mahmudullah has been a fixture in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) since its founding in 2012. Throughout his tenure, he played for various franchises, including the Chittagong Kings, Barisal Bulls, Khulna Titans, Chattogram Challengers, Minister Group Dhaka, and Fortune Barishal. In the 2016 BPL season with the Khulna Titans, he led his side in scoring with 396 runs and claimed 10 wickets. Beyond the BPL, he participated in the Pakistan Super League with the Quetta Gladiators and led Gemcon Khulna to victory in the inaugural 2020-21 Bangabandhu T20 Cup. In November 2025, he was acquired by the Rangpur Riders for the 2026 BPL season.
