Koo Bon-moo served as the chairman of LG Group, assuming the role in 1995 following the tenure of his father, Koo Cha-kyung. During his period of leadership, he oversaw the strategic evolution of the conglomerate, which had been established by his grandfather, Koo In-hwoi. His tenure concluded with his death in Seoul in 2018.
Educational Background and Early Tenure
Born in Jinju on 10 February 1945, Koo received his higher education at Yonsei University before relocating to Ohio to complete his academic studies. He earned a bachelor's degree at Ashland University and a master's degree at Cleveland State University. Upon his return to South Korea in 1975, he commenced his professional career at Lucky Chemical, an entity that eventually transitioned into LG Chem. In 1980, he transferred to GoldStar, where he managed operations at the Tokyo office between 1983 and 1985.

Koo ascended to the chairmanship of LG Group in 1995, adhering to the established family succession practices. As the chief executive officer, he directed the group's diversified interests for over two decades. His management coincided with a period of significant growth for the firm, navigating the complexities of international trade and industrial production within the South Korean market.
Succession and Final Years
Following the loss of his only son in 1994, Koo legally adopted his nephew, Koo Kwang-mo, in 2004. In 2017, he began medical treatment for a brain tumor. After choosing to end this medical intervention, he died at a hospital in Seoul on 20 May 2018 at the age of 73.
