One thousand, one hundred and sixty-two numbered minor planets were identified by Korado Korlević between 1996 and 2001. Working primarily from the Višnjan Observatory in Croatia, he established himself as a central figure in the observation of small bodies. His career represents a significant expansion of astrometric research capabilities within his home country.
Early Development and Education
Born in 1958 in Poreč, Korlević began his engagement with the sciences during his college years in Pula. He participated in local amateur astronomical societies, gaining experience in telescope construction and pedagogical methods. In 1981, he earned a B.Sc. degree from the pedagogical faculty at the University of Rijeka. Following his graduation, he held teaching positions at various polytechnic schools before shifting his focus toward formalizing astronomical research structures.

Korlević co-founded the Yugoslav School of Astronomy, which later became the Višnjan School of Astronomy. This organization provided a framework for studying asteroids and meteors. After the original observatory telescope was sent to Sarajevo during the Siege of Sarajevo, Korlević oversaw the acquisition of a new instrument in 1995. This upgrade allowed his team to produce their first astrometric lines. By 2016, his catalog of discoveries grew to include 1162 numbered minor planets, plus 132 co-discovered objects, alongside comets 183P/Korlević-Jurić and 203P/Korlević.
Expansion and Scientific Affiliations
To broaden the scope of their work regarding Near Earth Objects, the team constructed a new observatory in Tićan. This location also hosts a large Schumann Antenna designed to investigate the effects of meteors on ionospheric resonances. Beyond his observatory work, Korlević is a member of the International Meteor Organization, the Planetary Society, the Spaceguard Foundation, and the European Council for High Ability. He has received several honors, including the Edgar Wilson Award for comet discovery in 1999 and 2000, and the Ivan Filipović Award in 2002.
