Julio Dormal arrived in Argentina in 1868, bringing the Beaux-Arts style to the country following his architectural training in Paris. Over the next five decades, he established himself as a central figure in the urban development of Buenos Aires and La Plata, overseeing projects that defined the aesthetic landscape of the Argentine capital during the early twentieth century.
Public Works and Park Design
Dormal managed the design of the layout for Parque Tres de Febrero in the Palermo neighbourhood of Buenos Aires, which reached completion in 1876. He also directed the construction of the Palermo Race Course. These projects demonstrated his ability to coordinate large-scale urban infrastructure projects during the city's period of rapid expansion.

In 1904, Dormal assumed control of the Argentine Congress building project following the murder of the original architect, Vittorio Meano. Dormal finished the construction in 1906, strictly adhering to the original design specifications. His technical experience also facilitated his involvement in the construction of the Government House in La Plata, as well as the final phases of the Teatro Colón and the renovation of the Teatro Opera in Buenos Aires.
The Pereda Palace
In 1919, Dormal took over the construction of the Pereda Palace for the doctor and cattle rancher Celedonio Pereda, replacing Louis Martin. The project remained unfinished at the time of Dormal's death in 1924, with the structure eventually completed in 1936. Since 1944, the building has served as the residence for the Brazilian ambassador.
