The first South Korean soloist to secure a top-ten spot on the US Billboard 200, Im Nayeon established a distinct career both as a lead member of the girl group Twice and as an independent recording artist. Her transition from reality television competitor to a consistent chart-topping performer remains a defining arc in contemporary South Korean pop music history.
Early Training and Television Beginnings
Born on September 22, 1995, in the Gangdong District of Seoul, Im Nayeon began her path to performance at a young age. After participating in a childhood modeling contest, she joined JYP Entertainment as a trainee in September 2010. While an initial plan to debut in a group called 6mix in 2014 was abandoned, she gained early screen experience with an appearance in the 2012 series Dream High 2. Her formal education included studies at Apgujeong High School and later at Konkuk University, where she majored in Theater and Film Arts before shifting her focus to her professional career.

Nayeon emerged as a significant figure in 2015 through the reality show Sixteen, a competition organized by JYP Entertainment to form a new girl group. Upon placing in the final lineup, she debuted with Twice later that year with the EP The Story Begins. Within the ensemble, she earned a reputation for maintaining the center position during performances and frequently opening the group's tracks, cementing her role in the project's commercial success.
Solo Expansion and International Reach
In June 2022, she expanded her career with the debut EP Im Nayeon, which reached number one on South Korea’s Circle Album Chart. The lead single, Pop!, achieved significant chart success, placing within the top ten in six countries. Her second EP, Na, followed in 2024, featuring the lead single ABCD and additional collaborations. Her reach extended further in 2025 with a Japanese solo performance at the Ariake Arena and a digital release of a cover of Ikimonogakari's Kimagure Romantic. By 2026, she continued to diversify her output with soundtrack contributions such as Love Is Enough for the drama series Sold Out on You.
Brand Representation and Philanthropy
Beyond music, Nayeon has served as a brand ambassador and muse for various fashion houses, including Givenchy Beauty, Swarovski, and Tommy Jeans. She has also maintained a commitment to charitable activities, frequently donating through the Community Chest of Korea. Her contributions include funding for COVID-19 relief, support for victims of the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquakes, and aid for wildfire victims in 2025, leading to her induction into the Community Chest of Korea’s Honor Society.
