After a period playing drums in Chicago blues clubs, he returned to Michigan to form the Psychedelic Stooges, later known as the Stooges. The original lineup featured Ron Asheton, Scott Asheton, and Dave Alexander. Heavily influenced by the Doors and Chicago blues, the band established a reputation for raw, primitive sound and extreme, unpredictable stage behavior. During this period, he adopted the stage name Iggy Pop, inspired by a local acquaintance.
Solo Career and Creative Partnerships
In the 1970s, he relocated to West Berlin with David Bowie to pursue sobriety and artistic reinvention. This partnership yielded the 1977 solo albums The Idiot and Lust for Life, featuring his lyrical contributions. Throughout his career, he explored diverse musical styles ranging from punk and hard rock to jazz and electronic, resulting in solo hits like The Passenger and Real Wild Child (Wild One), as well as his 1990 Top 40 duet, Candy.
