Early Musical Foundations
Born in Los Angeles, Jackson attended Washington Preparatory High School and William Howard Taft Charter High School. His early interest in rap developed in a typewriting class, and he adopted his stage name from a childhood experience with his older brother. By age 16, he formed the group C.I.A. with his friend Sir Jinx. In 1987, he briefly studied architectural drafting at the Phoenix Institute of Technology in Arizona before returning to California to focus on his music career.

In 1987, Jackson joined Eazy-E and Dr. Dre to form N.W.A. He served as the group's lead rapper and primary lyricist for their landmark 1989 album, Straight Outta Compton. Following a financial dispute with manager Jerry Heller, he left N.W.A in late 1989. He launched a successful solo career with albums such as AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted (1990), Death Certificate (1991), and The Predator (1992). He has performed with various groups including Da Lench Mob, Westside Connection, and Mount Westmore.
Transition to Cinema
Ice Cube expanded into film in the early 1990s, beginning with his role in the 1991 film Boyz n the Hood. He later co-wrote and starred in the 1995 comedy Friday, which established him as a film franchise lead. His directorial debut followed in 1998 with The Players Club. His extensive filmography includes the Barbershop series, the Ride Along franchise, 21 Jump Street, and the 2015 biopic Straight Outta Compton, which he executive produced.
