Haile Gebrselassie is an Ethiopian long-distance runner and businessman, born in Assela in 1973. His record spans athletics, road running and marathon.
His honours include Track & Field News Athlete of the Year, Silver Olympic Order and Bislett medal. He competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics, the 2000 Summer Olympics, the 1996 Summer Olympics and the 2008 Summer Olympics. He also featured at the 1997 World Championships in Athletics – men's 10,000 metres, the 1993 World Championships in Athletics – men's 5000 metres and the 1993 World Championships in Athletics – men's 10,000 metres.
