Hagigat Rzayeva

Hagigat Rzayeva established a career as a prominent opera singer and actress during a period of transition in the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. Her professional trajectory moved from early education in Lankaran to a long-standing tenure at the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, where she emerged as a fixture of the regional performing arts scene.

Early Education and Career Beginnings

Born in 1907 in Lankaran, Rzayeva engaged with educational opportunities during her youth, eventually moving to Baku to further her studies. She enrolled at the Baku Academy of Music to develop her skills in professional opera and vocal performance. During her time in the city, she participated in amateur theatrical productions, which served as the precursor to her full-time engagement with the stage.

Professional Tenure at the Opera Theater

Upon joining the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater, Rzayeva committed herself to a career in music and drama. She maintained a professional association with fellow opera singer Huseyngulu Sarabski for fifteen years. Throughout her time at the theater, she balanced vocal performance with screen appearances, featuring in three films produced in 1930 and 1934. She remained with the opera company until her retirement in 1952.

Awards and Recognition

The state recognized Rzayeva's contributions to the arts through several honors. In 1938, she received the Order of the Badge of Honour. This was followed by the title of Honored Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1940. By 1943, she was designated a People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR. Her legacy in the region is marked by her final resting place at the Alley of Honor in Baku, following her death in 1969.
