Dana White assumed the role of president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship in 2001, following the acquisition of the organization by Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta for $2 million. Since then, he has overseen the evolution of the global mixed martial arts enterprise, leading it through significant ownership transitions, media expansion, and incorporation into TKO Group Holdings.
Early Career and Education
Born in Manchester, Connecticut, in 1969, White moved between Nevada and the East Coast during his childhood, eventually graduating from Hermon High School in Maine in 1987. His pursuit of higher education at Quincy College and the University of Massachusetts Boston was brief, as he withdrew during his first semester at both institutions. Early employment included roles as an asphalt laborer, a bellhop, and a bouncer. He began boxing at age 17 and later operated a boxercise gym in Boston. Following a relocation to Las Vegas, White managed mixed martial artists, including Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz, which provided his entry into the combat sports industry.

Upon the 2001 acquisition of the UFC, White inherited a brand with few assets beyond its name. Early promotional efforts occurred at the Trump Taj Mahal, while television exposure was sought to stabilize the organization. In 2004, White co-created The Ultimate Fighter, a reality series that served as a critical growth engine for the promotion. By 2008, Forbes valued the company at $1.1 billion. Under his leadership, the organization expanded its reach to include women’s bouts, starting in 2013 with a headline contest between Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche.
Ownership and Expansion
The UFC was sold to a consortium led by WME-IMG in 2016 for $4 billion. White remained president, later becoming CEO in 2023 following the formation of TKO Group Holdings. Outside of his primary duties, he founded the slap-fighting organization Power Slap in 2022 and co-founded Zuffa Boxing in 2025. In 2025, he was elected to the board of directors at Meta Platforms.
