Her early administrative career focused on provincial archives and social welfare, beginning with her appointment as Director of the Historical Archives of the Province of Buenos Aires in 2000. Shortly thereafter, she led the Institute of Social Welfare of the Province of Buenos Aires.

Álvarez Rodríguez transitioned into cultural governance during the early 2000s, serving as Secretary of Culture for the Province of Buenos Aires starting in 2002. She later chaired the Cultural Institute of the same province from 2003 until 2005. During this interval, she held the position of President Ad-honorem of the Social Integration Council. Her work in 2005 extended to oversight committees concerning municipal affairs, natural resources, and tourism. By 2007, she assumed the role of Minister of Tourism for the Government of the Province of Buenos Aires.
Legislative Tenure
In 2005, Álvarez Rodríguez secured membership in the Argentine Chamber of Deputies representing the National Front for Victory. Her legislative work involved serving on the Commission on Addiction Prevention and Control of Narcotics. Following her initial term ending in 2007, she returned to the Chamber of Deputies for two consecutive periods from 2015 to 2019 and 2019 to 2021. She maintains affiliation with the Justicialist Party.
