Charlbi Dean Kriek began a professional career in modeling at six years old, eventually transitioning into television and cinema. Transition to Acting

Dean made her feature film debut in 2010 playing the character Amanda in the adaptation of Spud, a role she returned to in the 2013 sequel Spud 2: The Madness Continues. She subsequently appeared in the 2017 horror film Don't Sleep and the 2018 film An Interview with God. Within the television landscape, she joined the Arrowverse series Black Lightning in 2018, portraying the recurring character Syonide for two seasons.

International Recognition

In February 2020, Dean was cast in a lead role for Ruben Östlund's satirical film Triangle of Sadness. The production premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where it was awarded the Palme d'Or. Her performance earned positive reception from critics, with observers noting the film as a significant milestone in her acting career during the period immediately preceding her death.

Health and Circumstances of Death

In October 2008, Dean survived a severe car accident that resulted in a broken wrist, four broken ribs, and a collapsed lung, requiring life-saving surgery at the Milnerton Medi-Clinic. The procedure involved the removal of her spleen, which left her at an increased risk for infections. On 29 August 2022, after feeling unwell, she was admitted to a hospital in New York City. Her health declined quickly, and she died at age 32. An autopsy determined the cause of death as bacterial sepsis triggered by Capnocytophaga.
