Born in 1978 in Bulawayo, Rhodesia, Charlene moved with her family to South Africa in 1989. Throughout her career, she secured notable results such as three gold medals and a silver at the 1999 All-Africa Games. The meeting between Charlene and Prince Albert II occurred at the Mare Nostrum swimming competition in Monte Carlo in 2000. Following their engagement announcement in June 2010, she converted to Catholicism. The pair held a civil ceremony on 1 July 2011, followed by a religious service the next day. In December 2014, she gave birth to twins, Princess Gabriella and Hereditary Prince Jacques, at The Princess Grace Hospital Centre.
