He implemented significant cost-cutting measures, returned the company to profitability, and established DS Automobiles as a separate brand. His tenure included the acquisition of Opel and Vauxhall from General Motors and concluded with the merger of PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
The Stellantis Era and Departure
As the first CEO of Stellantis, Tavares oversaw a massive conglomerate comprising brands such as Jeep, Chrysler, and Peugeot. His leadership was marked by initiatives to save 5 billion euros annually through platform sharing. However, his tenure ended on 1 December 2024 amid significant operational challenges, including a 70% decline in net profits for that year and a reduction in stock value by more than half from its early 2024 peak.
