Early Education and Academic Training
Born in Bnei Brak in 1951, Daum began his religious studies at age 13 within the Ruzhin Yeshiva. In 1987, Daum assumed the role of Chief Rabbi of the Jewish Community of Frankfurt am Main. His responsibilities encompassed supervising local Kashrut, overseeing marriages, and managing the renovation of the community Mikvah. As Av Beth Din, he addressed matters of religious law including conversions and divorce. Beyond administrative duties, he prioritized outreach, organizing cultural events and educational heritage tours to locations such as Worms and Mainz.
Transition to Academia in Belgium
Daum moved to Antwerp in 1993, transitioning from communal leadership to formal education. He instructed students in Jewish law within state and day schools. In 1995, he joined the Faculty for Comparative Religion in Wilrijk, where he was eventually awarded a Professorship Honoris Causa. Alongside his wife, he dedicated his later years to outreach projects for prospective converts and those interested in deepening their knowledge of Jewish studies.
