Ahmed Hegazi, born 25 January 1991 in Ismailia, is an Egyptian professional footballer who established his career as a defensive stalwart. Since his senior international debut in 2011, he has navigated a decade of high-level competition, overcoming recurring ligament injuries to contribute to league titles and international tournament appearances across Egypt, Italy, and the Middle East.
Early Career and Move to Italy
Hegazi began his professional journey at Ismaily on 24 November 2009. His performance earned a transfer to the Italian club Fiorentina in December 2011 for a fee of €1.5 million. He wore the number 3 shirt and made his official debut on 18 November 2012 against Atalanta. During his tenure, he suffered consecutive anterior cruciate ligament injuries in 2012 and 2013, which sidelined him for significant portions of his time in Italy. He briefly joined Perugia on loan in February 2015 before departing Fiorentina.

Returning to Egypt, Hegazi signed a five-year contract with Al Ahly on 1 September 2015. During his time with the club, he secured the 2015–16 and 2016–17 Egyptian Premier League titles. His trophy collection further expanded with the 2016–17 Egypt Cup and the 2015 Egyptian Super Cup before he transitioned to international football in England.
Premier League and Middle Eastern Tenure
In July 2017, Hegazi moved to West Bromwich Albion on loan, debuting with a goal against AFC Bournemouth. The club exercised a permanent transfer option in December 2017. Following the club's relegation, he continued his career in the region, joining Al-Ittihad in October 2020. There, he helped secure the club's ninth league title and the 2022 Saudi Super Cup. In July 2024, he moved to the club Neom on a two-year contract.
International Representation
Hegazi has been a regular for Egypt since 2011. His performance at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations led to his inclusion in the CAF Team of the Tournament. He first captained the national side in a November 2020 victory over Togo.
