The swimmer Yana Klochkova secured five Olympic medals, four of which were gold, during her professional career. Born in Simferopol in 1982, she established 50 Ukrainian records across various distances and strokes. Her performance at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games included setting a world record in the 400-meter medley and a European record in the 200-meter medley.
Athletic Achievements
Klochkova dominated the individual medley throughout the early 2000s. She claimed gold medals in both the 200-meter and 400-meter individual medley events at the 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Summer Olympics. Her additional honours include a silver medal in the 800-meter freestyle at the 2000 Sydney Games. Beyond the Olympics, she secured ten world championship titles and nineteen European championship titles throughout her tenure in the sport.

Following an announcement in January 2008, Klochkova officially retired from competitive swimming on 24 March 2009 at the Aquarena pool in Kharkiv. This event, attended by local officials, marked her formal departure from the track. She subsequently briefly led the Kyiv branch of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine in 2011, though she resigned from this position in 2012 due to a lack of institutional support.
Public and Private Life
Klochkova served as a member of the Kharkiv City Council after being elected in 2006 as part of the Party of Regions. She is a Major in the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine and held the title of Merited Master of Sports starting in 1998. She has one son, Oleksandr, born on 21 June 2010. Following the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, she moved from Kyiv to reside in Crimea.
