Yakubu Gowon (born 1934) is a Nigerian politician and Military general. He was born in Kanke on 19 October 1934.
Yakubu Gowon served as chairperson of the Organisation of African Unity (1973–1974), President of Nigeria (1966–1975), Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria (1966–1967) and Chief of Army Staff (in 1966).
Yakubu Gowon was awarded National Order of Niger and Order of the Federal Republic. He was educated at Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Staff College, Camberley and University of Warwick.
