Victoria Azarenka holds the distinction of being the first Belarusian athlete to secure a major singles title in professional tennis. Born in Minsk in 1989, she ascended to the pinnacle of the sport by claiming the world number one ranking in 2012, a position she maintained for a cumulative duration of 51 weeks throughout her career.

Early Development and Junior Success

Beginning her journey on the ITF Junior Circuit in 2003, Azarenka rapidly distinguished herself as a elite talent. By 2005, she achieved the status of junior world number one, becoming the first representative from Belarus to earn that title. Her junior resume included victories at the Australian Open and US Open championships in 2005. At age 15, she relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona, to facilitate her training, receiving logistical support from NHL goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin.

Azarenka reached her professional zenith with back-to-back Australian Open singles titles in 2012 and 2013. Her performance at the 2012 season-end cemented her status as the year-end world number one. Beyond her primary singles successes, she captured ten WTA doubles titles and three mixed doubles major championships, partnering with Max Mirnyi at the 2007 US Open and Bob Bryan at the 2008 French Open. She consistently maintained a top-10 year-end ranking from 2009 to 2013.
