Born in 1953 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Anthony Marc Shalhoub grew up in a large household. He attended Green Bay East High School before studying at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay. He later participated in the National Student Exchange to the University of Southern Maine, where he earned a bachelor's degree. In 1980, he completed his formal acting education with a master's degree from the Yale School of Drama.
Television Breakthroughs
Shalhoub moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, to perform with the American Repertory Theater for four seasons before relocating to New York City. His first significant television success arrived with the NBC sitcom Wings, in which he played the cab driver Antonio Scarpacci from 1991 to 1997. He later achieved sustained recognition for his portrayal of the detective Adrian Monk in the USA Network series Monk, airing from 2002 to 2009.
