Tom Glynn-Carney

British actor

The role of Aegon II Targaryen in the fantasy series House of the Dragon brought Tom Glynn-Carney to international prominence starting in 2022. Born in Salford in 1995, this British performer maintains a dual career as a professional actor on stage and screen, as well as serving as the lead vocalist for the indie band Sleep Walking Animals.

Early Training and Education

Glynn-Carney attended Canon Slade School in Bolton before advancing his education at the Pendleton Sixth Form College. There, he focused on musical theatre and secured a triple distinction star in performing arts, marking the highest vocational grade available. His formal acting training took place at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he gained early experience through professional stage adaptations of Peter Pan and Macbeth.

Stage Performances and Accolades

His professional theatre career began with significant momentum during 2017. He appeared in the production at the Royal Court Theatre before moving to the Gielgud Theatre for a West End run. His work in the theatre industry led to the Emerging Talent Award at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards. Additionally, he was honored with a Drama Desk Award in 2019 for his contributions to the stage.

Transition to Television and Cinema

Television work for Glynn-Carney commenced in 2013 with a two-episode appearance on Casualty. By 2017, he reached a larger audience by portraying Lance Corporal Tony Armstrong in the BBC military drama The Last Post. In the same year, he appeared in Christopher Nolan's war film Dunkirk, marking his debut with American audiences. Later projects included the 2019 biographical film Tolkien, where he played Christopher Wiseman, and the 2023 film The Book of Clarence.
