A delivery clocked at 149.56 km/h during the 2022 T20 World Cup established Taskin Ahmed as one of the fastest bowlers in the history of Bangladesh cricket. Since his professional debut for Dhaka Metropolis in 2011, the Mohammadpur Thana native has emerged as a central figure in his nation's international bowling attack across all three formats.
Domestic Foundations
Ahmed began his formal training at the Abahani playground on 10 January 2007. After progressing through under-15 and under-17 squads, he joined the national under-19 team. His breakthrough arrived during the 2012 ICC Under-19 World Cup, where he led Bangladesh with 11 wickets. Domestically, he gained prominence playing for Chittagong Kings, where his performance in the BPL 2 semi-final earned him man of the match honors. By January 2025, he became the second player in league history to secure 100 BPL wickets, trailing only Shakib Al Hasan.

The right-arm fast bowler made his T20I debut on 1 April 2014, claiming the wicket of Glenn Maxwell. Later that year, he became the first Bangladeshi bowler to take five wickets on an ODI debut against India. During the 2015 Cricket World Cup, he led his side in wickets, proving instrumental in their quarter-final run. His international trajectory faced a setback in 2016 when he was suspended from bowling in international matches due to an illegal action. He returned to the Test arena in 2017, earning his first red-ball wicket by dismissing Kane Williamson.
Versatility and Records
Beyond his fast bowling, Ahmed has contributed significantly with the bat. In a 2021 Test against Zimbabwe, he scored 75 runs, establishing a 191-run partnership with Mahmudullah. This innings remains the highest individual score by a number 10 batsman from Bangladesh in an away match. In T20 competition, he recorded figures of 7 for 19 for Durbar Rajshahi in January 2025, marking the third-best spell in recognized T20 history.
