In 1978, he joined the board of the Makassed foundation, later serving as its president from 1982 until 2000. He also headed the Saeb Salam Foundation for culture and higher education.
Political Progression
Salam entered electoral politics in 1992 but withdrew as a protest against Syrian influence. Returning to the national stage, he served as Minister of Culture from 2008 to 2009. By 2009, he won a seat in the Beirut district while maintaining a centrist, independent identity.
Government Tenure
Tasked with government formation on 6 April 2013, he received significant support from the parliament. On 15 February 2014, he announced his cabinet.
