Min Yoon-gi, active as the rapper Suga and Agust D, began his career in the South Korean underground hip-hop scene before rising to international prominence. Born in Daegu on March 9, 1993, he shifted from learning MIDI production as a teenager to becoming a central figure in the globally recognized boy band BTS, where he serves as a prolific songwriter and producer.
Early Development and Production
Before joining BTS, Suga gained experience working part-time at a record studio by age 17. He performed under the name Gloss as an underground rapper and contributed to the hip-hop crew D-Town in 2010. His production work included the song 518-062, which commemorated the Gwangju Uprising. He eventually joined Big Hit Entertainment as a producer, where he trained for three years before debuting with BTS on Mnet's M Countdown in June 2013 with the track No More Dream.

Suga has written and produced music across the band's entire discography. He performed introductory tracks for multiple releases, including the 2015 extended play The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 1 and its follow-up, Pt. 2. In 2020, he released Interlude: Shadow on the album Map of the Soul: 7, which explored his personal relationship with fame. His solo contributions to the group include the autobiographical track First Love from the 2016 album Wings and the 2018 song Trivia: Seesaw.
Solo Projects and External Collaborations
Suga released his first self-titled mixtape in 2016 via SoundCloud, later re-releasing it for streaming platforms in 2018. His second mixtape, D-2, reached number 11 on the US Billboard 200 in 2020. In 2023, he debuted his first solo album, D-Day, which tied him with bandmate Jimin as the highest-charting South Korean solo artist on the US Billboard 200. He also serves as a producer for other artists, including Suran on the song Wine, which earned the Best R&B award at the 2017 Melon Music Awards.
Public Recognition and Service
In 2018, Suga received the fifth-class Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit from President Moon Jae-in for his contributions to Korean culture. He was later appointed Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture in 2021. Suga attended Apgujeong High School and graduated from Global Cyber University with a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment before enrolling in a Master of Business Administration program at Hanyang Cyber University. He entered service with the Republic of Korea Army in 2023.
