Born in 1874 in Cradley to blacksmith Caleb Bloomer and Merab Dunn, he moved to Derbyshire as a child. He entered the workforce at 12, serving as an apprentice blacksmith before joining Ley's iron foundry. After a brief period with Derby Midland, he signed professionally with Derby County in 1892. His debut against Stoke at the Victoria Ground saw him score in a 3–1 victory. Under the guidance of captain John Goodall, he refined his positional play and ball control. He remained the leading scorer for his club for 14 consecutive seasons, achieving five First Division top-scorer titles between 1896 and 1904. His impact was such that he scored 21 goals in 20 games during the 1896–1897 season.
International and Coaching Career
He recorded 28 goals in 23 appearances for England. Beyond his domestic success, his later life involved coaching roles across Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain.
