Beyond his academic pursuits, Sin was a high-ranking official within the Joseon government. His career spanned several decades, during which he navigated the complexities of court life and governance. While primarily recognized for his roles as a writer, philosopher, and politician, he also held the rank of general. His political influence was such that his family connections extended into the highest reaches of the state, including an alliance through his daughter, who became a royal consort to Sejo of Joseon.
Family and Personal History
Born in 1417, Sin was the son of Sin Chang and Lady Chŏng of the Naju Chŏng clan. He was part of a large family with several siblings. He married Princess Consort Musong of the Musong Yun clan, daughter of Yun Kyŏngyŏn, and together they had eight sons and one daughter. He also had a concubine, Lady Pae, with whom he had an additional son and daughter. He lived until 1475, concluding a life defined by extensive service to the Joseon state.
