Academic Training
Speicher pursued his higher education at the Universities of Saarbrücken, Freiburg, and Heidelberg. In 1989, he completed his doctorate at Heidelberg University. His doctoral thesis, titled Quantenstochastische Prozesse auf der Cuntz-Algebra, was supervised by Wilhelm Freiherr von Waldenfels.

The transition from doctoral studies to established research included a decade at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, where he served as a professor from 2000 to 2010. Following his tenure in Canada, he returned to Germany to join Saarland University in 2010, where he currently holds a professorship.

His published work includes the 2006 text Lectures on the Combinatorics of Free Probability, co-authored with Alexandru Nica, and the 2017 volume Free Probability and Random Matrices, written with James A.
