Early Development and Domestic Success
Born in 1973 in Indore and raised in Bangalore, Dravid began his cricketing journey at age 12. His formative training took place at the Chinnaswamy Stadium under Keki Tarapore. He attended St. Joseph's Boys' High School and St. Joseph's College in Bengaluru before continuing his studies at Bangalore University and Central College of Bengaluru. He made his Ranji Trophy debut in February 1991 for Karnataka, quickly demonstrating his capabilities by scoring centuries that eventually led to his selection for the India A team.

After early attempts to enter the national squad, Dravid made his ODI debut on 3 April 1996 against Sri Lanka. His Test debut followed on 20 June 1996 at Lord's against England, where he scored 95 runs after replacing an injured teammate. Over the following years, he secured his position in the side, eventually moving into the number three batting position and establishing a reputation for resilience that became the hallmark of his international tenure.
Coaching and Leadership Tenure
Following his retirement from international play in 2011, Dravid moved into coaching, serving as the Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy. He led the India Under-19 team to a World Cup title in 2018 after a runner-up finish in 2016. As head coach of the senior men's team, he guided the squad to the 2023 Cricket World Cup final and the 2023 ICC World Test Championship final, achieving his peak coaching success by winning the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
