In 1960, during the Rome Games, he secured a silver medal individually on The Rock and a team bronze. Additional team honors followed in 1964 Tokyo and 1972 Munich. His continental success peaked in 1959 when he earned the European Championship individual gold medal in Paris while riding Uruguay.

Between 1952 and 1976, he secured wins at prestigious locations including Aachen, Amsterdam, Dublin, and Rome.
