Education and Early Life
Born in Meadowlands, Soweto, in 1971, Mahanyele-Dabengwa relocated to the United States at age 17 to pursue higher education. She attended Douglass College at Rutgers University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in Economics in 1993. Later, she attained an MBA from De Montfort University in 1996 and completed an executive education program at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government in 2008.

Her career began at Fieldstone Private Capital Group in New York City, an investment bank focused on infrastructure development. After serving as a vice president, she transferred to the firm's South African office. She subsequently led Project Finance South Africa at the Development Bank of Southern Africa. In 2004, she joined Shanduka Energy as managing director, later becoming CEO of the Shanduka Group. Following her departure from Shanduka in 2016, she established Sigma Capital before transitioning to her current role at Naspers.
Advocacy and Governance
Mahanyele-Dabengwa maintains an extensive portfolio in corporate governance and advocacy. She has served as an Independent Director for Vodacom and Discovery Insure, and held board positions at Gold Fields and Comair. Her commitment to education includes her role as a patron of the National Education Empowerment Trust. Furthermore, she has acted as chairperson for Global Dignity in South Africa and participated in World Economic Forum initiatives.
Recognition and Awards
Industry recognition for her work includes being named a Global Young Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2007. In 2008, The Wall Street Journal included her on its list of the 50 women to watch.
