Early Career and Timbiriche
Rubio studied jazz, painting, dance, and acting at the Centro de Educación Artística starting in 1980. In 1982, she joined the group Timbiriche, a project created by Televisa producers. The ensemble debuted on 30 April 1982 on the television program Siempre en Domingo. She remained with the group until 1991, performing alongside members including Mariana Garza, Alix Bauer, Diego Schoening, Benny Ibarra, and Sasha Sokol.

Following her time in Timbiriche, Rubio pursued a solo career with EMI Latin. Her first two studio albums, La Chica Dorada (1992) and 24 Kilates (1993), established her position in the market. She pivoted toward dance and electronic sounds with 1995’s El Tiempo Es Oro and 1996’s Planeta Paulina. During this period, she expanded into film acting, starring in the 1995 feature Bésame en la Boca.
International Recognition
The release of her self-titled album Paulina in 2000 marked a turning point, making her the best-selling Latin music artist according to the 2001 Billboard Year-End charts. Subsequent projects including Border Girl (2002), Pau-Latina (2004), Ananda (2006), and Gran City Pop (2009) maintained this momentum. Throughout her career, she achieved five number-one singles on the US Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, including 'Te Quise Tanto' and 'Ni Una Sola Palabra'.
