Pedro Miguel Carreiro Resendes, professionally known as Pauleta, established a reputation as a prolific striker despite never competing in his native Portugal’s Primeira Liga. Over an 18-year senior career, the Azores-born forward focused his efforts primarily in Spain and France, becoming a fixture of European football through his high goal-scoring frequency and clinical finishing in front of the net.
Early Career and Spanish Stint
Born in Ponta Delgada on 28 April 1973, Pauleta began his professional journey in lower regional leagues. After a brief youth tenure at FC Porto, he signed with CU Micaelense in 1994, followed by a season at G.D. Estoril Praia. His move to UD Salamanca in 1996 marked his entry into the Spanish system, where he secured 19 goals during a promotion-earning campaign. By 1998, he transferred to Deportivo de La Coruña, playing a role in the club’s 2000 league championship title.
