Neslihan Demir

Turkish volleyball player (born 1983)

Neslihan Demir established a unique standard in international volleyball by becoming the first player to secure the Best Scorer title at two consecutive World Championships in 2006 and 2010. A left-handed opposite hitter, she emerged from Eskişehir to compete at the highest global levels, eventually serving as Turkey's flag bearer during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Early Career and Domestic Success

Demir began her professional path at Eskişehir DSİ Bentspor in 1995. Following a tenure at Yeşilyurt, she joined VakıfBank Güneş Sigorta in 2002. Her breakthrough occurred at age 19 during the 2003 European Championship, where she led the Turkish national team to a silver medal. Known for her aggressive spikes and serve, she earned the moniker Demir Leydi—the Iron Lady—reflecting both her family name and her on-court presence.

International Recognition and Club Titles

Throughout her career, Demir represented prestigious clubs including Spar Tenerife Marichal, Eczacıbaşı VitrA, and Galatasaray. Her trophy cabinet includes multiple Turkish Championships, domestic cups, and two FIVB Club World Championship titles earned with Eczacıbaşı. In 2014, the European Volleyball Confederation honored her as The Ultimate Volleyball Team Leader, followed by a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019. The FIVB named her an FIVB Hero in 2012 and included her in their Roster 100, which highlighted the most influential players of the decade.

Transition to Management

After retiring from active play, Demir transitioned into administrative roles within the sport. She contributed as a consultant for the Turkish Volleyball Federation and served as General Manager for Vakıfbank from 2020 to 2023. Her career remains marked by her extensive service to the Turkish national team, spanning hundreds of appearances across various age levels and major international tournaments, including multiple Mediterranean Games.
