Early Development and Junior Titles
Born in 1977 in Coimbatore, Karthikeyan learned motorsport through his father, a former Indian national rally champion. After training at the Elf Winfield Racing School in France, he competed in Formula Maruti in India and Formula Vauxhall Junior in Great Britain by 1993. He made history in 1994 as the first Indian to win a championship in Europe when he claimed the British Formula Ford Winter Series. In 1996, he achieved further milestones by becoming the first Asian to secure the Formula Asia International series title.

Karthikeyan joined Carlin Motorsport in 1998 for the British Formula 3 Championship. During his tenure, he secured two wins at Brands Hatch in 1999 and became the first driver to record a victory for the team. By 2000, he had accumulated wins at the International F3 race at Spa-Francorchamps and the Korea Super Prix. He moved to the Formula Nippon F3000 Championship in 2001, the same year he became the first Indian to test a Formula One car, completing sessions for Jaguar Racing and Jordan-Honda.
Formula One Entry and Legacy
Following a successful testing period, Karthikeyan signed with the Jordan team for the 2005 season. His highest finish occurred at the 2005 United States Grand Prix, where he placed fourth. After his Jordan tenure, he served as a reserve test driver for Williams in 2006. In recognition of his contributions to the sport, he received the Padma Shri award in 2010. Beyond Formula One, his career encompassed stints in A1GP, the Le Mans Series, and the FIA GT Championship.
